Fabric Books

Have you seen all the fabric books we have? Each one is made up into a sample, so you can see what it will look like, and you can buy the panel to make your own! We have all sorts. Some are Christmas themed, others are winter books, some are counting books, some are Beatrix Potter books...

These cats are just too funny:

The Mitten is one of my favorites.

This last one just came in the door. Here's what half of the panel looks like:

And in that big blank space above the instructions, they printed quilt labels :)

Shop Hop

Have you stopped by for Shop Hop yet? We've been having a great time! Even if you can't do the full shop hop, you can still stop by. There are door prize drawings every half hour, snacks, cute shop hop patterns, and neat demos! Possibly my favorite demo is the one about these leaf bowls:

They're made with moldable interfacing that is incredibly sturdy and very shapeable. Even better, you can reshape them or even iron them flat for storing at the end of the season! Or you could flatten it and mail it to a friend with the instructions for molding it!
There are also instructions available for making a poinsettia bowl or brooch. The brooch has been waterproofed, so you can wear it out in the snow without it going limp!

Each shop in the shop hop made up kits for two months of the year. They're cute wallhangings by themselves, and you can collect them all and have a small calendar quilt for each month! Each shop has also made an interchangable background for hanging the small quilts on. We have the months of September and October, and this is what our designs look like:

Pumpkin Peel Foundation Piecing Workshop with Mary Elizabeth Kinch!

We have a spectacular workshop coming up this Sunday! We're usually not open on Sunday, so you know this is special. The day will be packed with information, tips, and inspiration. Mary Elizabeth Kinch will be the teacher of the workshop. She's the author of the book Small Pieces, Spectacular Quilts. During the workshop, she will be teaching how to foundation piece a pumpkin peel quilt. We have a sample hanging in the store if you want to come in and see it in person! And here's a picture of it hanging on the back wall of the classroom:

The class will be Sunday, September 29th and will run from noon to 6pm. The cost of workshop is $50.00. You will get to ENJOY blocks that are perfect every time, no matter how small the pieces. LEARN about different foundation materials (and when to use them), helpful tips for construction, how color value plays a part in the success of the design, and appliqué techniques for finishing your project. EXPAND your design vocabulary! Did you know colors can be chewy or that designs can be bossy? Mary will discuss the myriad of possibilities for foundation string piecing and will show an "inspiration book" with fabulous examples of alternative designs, the history of string quilts, and the A-HA! moments when she was studying the Susan McCord quilts. You will also LEARN important tips for working with small strips and managing some seam allowance hiccups that can occur. There will even be a demo on how to remove the foundation paper without ripping your hair out too! This is a fun and inspirational class, which focuses on seeing design in a whole new light with a stress-free random method of piecing and design - a great transferable concept. Again, the cost is $50.00, and you can sign up by calling us (989-732-1252), stopping in the store, or signing up online (http://stores.delphinesquiltshop.com)! We hope to see you there!
